Subject of high-profile Italian euthanasia case dies

Eluana Englaro, who has been is a cnostant vegetative state since shw was in a car accident in 1992, died Monday, at the "La Quiete" clinic Udine, where her doctors stopped feeding her 4 days ago. This particular case has sparked a debate about euthanasia, as well as a political crisis. Euthanasia is illegal in Italy, however, refusing treatment is not. On Friday, her doctors removed her feeding tubes, because her father, Beppino Englaro, wanted them removed. In the last few days of her life, the Itailian Government, backed by the Vatican, attemped to have her feeding tubes reinserted. Her father has fought a 10-year battle to have her daughter die, because he and her friends say that it is what she wanted.

I think that her father was correct in remiving her feeding tubes. She has been in a vegetative state for 17 years, there is no helping her, so she deserves to die peacefully.
